We often use models and draw parallels between past events and present situations.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

A few people see similarities between 1930s' economy and financial markets and those of now.

Robert Prechter even suggested that DJIA might eventually drop to 3 figures, ie, 999 and below.
